I have seen companies often get trapped in a thankless and painstaking cycle of all work and not appreciating and celebrating the progress in pursuing mega-goals and long-term objectives. Instead, they emphasize achieving the milestones and not on the improvements, momentum, and lessons learned. In my experience, celebrating and acknowledging short-term wins is as essential as achieving critical milestones for driving desired change. The wisdom behind doing so is simple; daily efforts and short-term progress may be small, however, produces a tremendous impact on the overall journey. In addition, celebrating short-term wins motivates the employees, creates a sense of being on the right path, and acts as a reward system for reinforcing positive and productive behavior. Make celebration an intentional part of the transformation roadmap to increase engagement, create motivation, and foster commitment to change. Celebrate what you want to see more of – Tom Peters.
